Access Your Tuition Tax Receipts

A T2202 Tuition is issued each February to learners who have paid fees for eligible courses that can be claimed on a Canadian income tax return.

You can claim the tuition fees for courses taken in the calendar year. To qualify, the fees paid to UBC Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) must be more than $100 for the year.

Please note that Form T2202 replaced Form T2202A in 2019 and subsequent years.

Step One: Login to the Lifelong Learning Student Portal
To download your T2202 tuition tax receipt, log into the Lifelong Learning Student Portal using your UBC Campus-Wide Login (CWL) username and password. If you’re unsure of your CWL username or password, visit myAccount to look up your username or reset your password.


Step Two: Access Your Tax Receipt
From the Student Home menu choose Tax Receipt:

Select the desired tax year and click Print Tax Receipt


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A T2202 is a tax receipt that is issued to learners reporting the total tuition paid in the previous calendar year for eligible courses. The form shows the amount of tuition that can be reported for income tax purposes, as well as the number of months eligible for the education deduction. T2202 is the Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate, which is used for reporting to the Canada Revenue Agency for income tax purposes. This form is issued to learners who meet all of the following conditions:

  • You were enrolled during the calendar year in a qualifying education program or a specified education program;
  • You paid more than $100 in tuition fees;
  • You were 18 years of age or older before the end of the year.

UBC is required to submit a Social Insurance Number (SIN) for all learners who receive a T2202. To ensure your T2202 is issued with your SIN number, please ensure you have your SIN updated on your Lifelong Learning Student Portal account.

Step One: Login to the Lifelong Learning Student Portal with your CWL.


Step Two: Go to ‘My Profile’
In the Student Portal click on ‘My Profile’, and then click on ‘Personal Information’:


Step Three: Ensure you enter or modify your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
If the Social Insurance Number field is blank, the institution will not be able to include your T2202 eligible amounts in their report to the CRA for the tax year. You can enter or modify your SIN at any time.

Tuition fees are calculated based on the tax year and not the school year. Tuition fees for courses spanning one calendar year to the next are divided on both T2202 forms for both tax years.

You can claim a full-time education amount if you were enrolled in a qualifying education program which:

  • lasts at least three consecutive weeks, and
  • requires a minimum of ten hours of instruction or work each week. Instruction or work includes lectures, practical training and laboratory work. It also includes research time spent on a post-graduate thesis.

You can claim a part-time education amount if you were enrolled in a specific educational program which:

  • lasts at least three consecutive weeks, and
  • requires a minimum of 12 hours of instruction or work each month on courses in the program.

As per Canada Revenue Agency Guidelines, a learner cannot claim more than one education amount per month. A learner who is enrolled in a full-time program and part-time course(s) during the same months will only get credits for the full-time months.

T2202 is an official tax receipt. It is issued to all learners who paid tuition for qualifying courses in the previous calendar year. T2202 shows the amount of tuition that can be deducted for income tax purposes, as well as the number of months eligible for the education deduction. T4A is an official document for tax purposes that must be reported on your tax return. It is issued to learners who have received scholarships, bursaries, awards, and prizes from the StrongerBC future skills grant, or UBC in the previous calendar year.
